The 1955-56 Parkies hockey set (also known as 1955-56 Parkhurst) featured 79 cards. Printed in Canada, each five-cent pack included four picture cards and a stick of gum. Cards were printed by Parkhurst Products Limited of Toronto, Canada. Collectors could store their collection in the Parkies NHL Hockey Album.
Players, staff and retired legends from just two National Hockey League teams were included in the 1955-56 Parkies hockey series (Montréal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs). There are 69 different hockey persons featured in the series, 36 of which are today honoured members of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Collectors identify 12 rookie cards in the 1955-56 Parkies hockey series. The rookie card list includes Hockey Hall of Fame honoured members #18 Dick Duff and #50 Jacques Plante.
The 1955-56 Parkies hockey card design simply features a silhouette hockey player on a white background, with a colour nameplate at the bottom of the card. The design was also used for the 1955-56 Quaker series (similar cards 1-79, albeit backs feature green text and read “Quaker Hockey Trading Card”).
