NHLThe Toronto Maple Leafs will honour Mats Sundin and the number 13 he wore for 13 seasons in the blue and white. The ceremony will take place at the Air Canada Centre in advance of the Maple Leafs-Canadiens match on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012. Sundin will be the 18th player to have his number and name raised to the rafters by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Sundin joined the Maple Leafs in 1994-95 and stayed with them through to the end of the 1997-98 season. He began his career with the Québec Nordiques (four seasons) and ended it with the Vancouver Canucks (one season). Sundin served as the Maple Leafs captain from 1997-98 to 2007-08.

At the international level, Sundin won an Olympic gold medal with Sweden at the Torino 2006 Olympics. Incidentally, one of his Olympic teammates Kenny Jönsson will be honoured by the New York Islanders on the same night Sundin is honoured by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

A first-overall draft pick by the Nordiques in 1990, he joined the Maple Leafs in 1994 in a trade that sent popular captain Wendel Clark the other way. Sundin would go on to become one of the most popular Toronto players in his own special way. With magnificent size and talent, Sundin led the Maple Leafs in team scoring 12 times. He left the club as the franchise all-time leader in goals (420) and points (987).

A line of Mats Sundin memorabilia is available via the Maple Leafs official team store, Real Sports Apparel. Items include shirts, hoodies, scarves, headwear, collectible items, drinkware and framed items.
