NHLAmerican artist LeRoy Neiman, 91, has passed away. The artist was well known for his work in sport, including his service as official painter for five Olympiads.

Included in his work was two pieces of Edmonton Oilers’ great Wayne Gretzky. The two pieces were painted in the early 1980s: “The Great Gretzky”(1981) and “The Great One” (1983). He also painted Gretzky after he set the NHL’s all-time goal-scoring record in 1994 (“Gretzky’s Goal”).

Other hockey paintings included Ted Lindsay, Bobby Clarke, Bryan Trottier, Jude Drouin, Rod Gilbert and Bobby Orr (“Orr for the Defence”).
