One of the new insert concepts featured in the inaugural edition of Panini Prime hockey cards was recently explained on Panini America’s The Knight’s Lance. The insert, entitled “Showcase Swatches,” features a mix of acetate and game-used memorabilia.

“This card features two images on acetate, a front image and back image,” said Karvin Cheung, Director of NHL/NBA Product Development. “Beneath the acetate, you have a full swatch.

There are 82 different players featured in the Showcase Swatches insert. Each rare card is limited to 25 copies. The cards are randomly inserted into packs of 2011-12 Panini Prime which was released on Aug. 31, 2012.

“With one colour swatch, you can clearly see the photos. The cards have come out incredible.”
