Wayne Gretzky isn’t the only hockey star featured in the Upper Deck Co.’s new 2012 SP Authentic golf card set. The athletes – hockey, basketball, football and soccer – are included in the Parade of Stars base subset and autograph insert series. Other hockey stars are Bobby Orr, Grant Fuhr and Brett Hull.

SP Authentic golf releases on Sep. 25, 2012. All four hockey players are featured in the 30-card subset as well as the 14-card partial parallel signature set.

“We made the decision to include other athletes who love the game of golf in an insert series called Parade of Stars,” wrote Chris Carlin of the Upper Deck Co. in April.

This marks the sixth year for SP Authentic golf, albeit the first since 2005. The set is expected to feature some of the biggest names from professional golf. The series will be sold in four-card packs, with 20 packs per hobby box. Every box will deliver an average of three signature cards.

Golf-swinging hockey players have been featured on trading cards in the past, most notably a series of 100 players in the 2002-03 Signature Series “Golf” card insert set (unsigned). One of the oldest “golf” hockey cards featured Mike Ricci in the 1992-93 Stadium Club set. Previous SP Authentic golf sets (2001 to 2005), however, did not feature any athletes from other sports like hockey.
