NHLPanini America will debut Absolute hockey cards as a promotional series available on Dec. 26, 2013 (otherwise to be known as the Panini Boxing Day series). The 2013-14 Absolute hockey card series will include active and retired stars.

The hockey series will be available exclusively in Canada through collector shops part of the Panini Roundtable (via Universal Distribution, Panini America’s exclusive hobby distributor in Canada).

“Inspired by resoundingly successful nationwide wrapper-redemption programs such as Black Friday and Father’s Day, Panini America..is delivering a Boxing Day wrapper-redemption promotion to Canada,” wrote Tracy Hackler via The Knight’s Lance.

Panini America has started by releasing images to the main set (including rookies) and basic insert sets (Goalies, Icons and Rookies). The Absolute series will also include autographed and memorabilia cards.

The Absolute card brand was originally launched in 1995 as a National Football League collector set by Playoff. After six years, the Absolute brand (Playoff Absolute or Absolute SSD) was transformed into the Absolute Memorabilia brand, available in 2001 for NFL and Major League Baseball markets.

The new 2013-14 Boxing Day series is the first Absolute hockey card series.
