NHLPanini America has announced it will again produce a promotional set of sports cards available at hobby shops in USA and Canada. The card set features athletes from four of the five major team sports – baseball, basketball, hockey and American football.

“Panini America has turned Father’s Day into something of a national trading card holiday, driving thousands of collectors into hobby shops across the country during Father’s Day weekend to celebrate the true bonding experience of collecting cards,” wrote Tracy Hackler via Panini America’s blog, The Knight’s Lance. “That phenomenon promises to unfold again next month.”

There are 44 cards in the Panini Father’s Day base set, half of which are rookie cards limited (and numbered) to 499 copies each. There will be several inserts, too, with details to be announced in the coming weeks.

In the first few days of May, Panini America unveiled the first images of the set, including designs reminiscent of old card sets from the early 1990s. Retro designs included Team Pinnacle and Studio.

“There’s a distinct throwback feel to Panini America’s 2013 Father’s Day set that will remind many collectors (fathers, sons and daughters alike) of their fond collecting roots.”
