Panini America will be the first NHL company out of the gate with rookie cards of first-round draft picks Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin. The high-anticipated rookie cards will be featured in the new 2010-11 Certified hockey, scheduled for released on Oct. 20.
In all, there will be six October rookies featured in the Certified release – Hall, Seguin, Jeffrey Skinner, Brayden Schenn, Jordan Eberle and Magnus Pääjärvi. This marks the earliest turnaround for NHL rookie cards from the start of a season.
“There was a lot of anxiety among the collecting community when we announced that we were moving the Certified release date (from September to October), but it was a calculated decision we felt was worth the risk,” said Al Muir, Panini America’s Hockey Brand Manager. “Not only did the benefit of extra time allow us to get additional top-flight autograph content into the product, it afforded us the opportunity to produce the first Rookie Cards of the NHL’s next wave of superstars.”
All six Certified rookies were photographed at the NHLPA Rookie Showcase on Sep. 1. The rookies made their debut in the first weekend of the NHL season, thus making them eligible for 2010-11 NHL card sets.
