Another two “Miracle on Ice” game-worn jerseys will soon find their way into the hands of collectors. A pair of 1980 Team USA Phil Verchota game-worn jerseys will be sold on Feb. 23 via the latest Heritage Sports Collectibles Platinum Night Auction.

Just last year, a Team USA Mike Eruzione gamer earned a winning bid of $550,000 in a Heritage auction. Since 2012, a Ken Morrow gamer has earned a winning bid of $87,304 while a Mark Pavelich gamer has earned a winning bid of $116,203, both via Classic auctions.

The Heritage Auction features both a white and a blue game-worn jersey. Other 1980 items include a USA Hockey presentation watch, a parka with pants and cap, and an opening ceremonies suede jacket with boots and mittens.

“The (white) jersey bears the manufacturer’s label of “Norcon,” a sporting goods company headquartered in Forest Lake, Minnesota, about thirty miles from the University of Minnesota where Herb Brooks coached Verchota and eight other members of the U.S. team,” explains Heritage Auctions in the lot description. “The size “XL” garment is crafted primarily from white mesh with blue shoulders and red and blue striping at elbows and waist. Blue and red tackle twill form the bold “USA” lettering in six-inch block on the chest, and the number “27″ that appears at each shoulder and reverse. White stars adorn each shoulder. A white tackle twill “Verchota” stands in three-inch block on the distinctive blue tackle twill nameplate across the back. A scattering of stick and board burns adorn the sleeves, and minor dye transfer set loose from the pouring sweat of exertion and anxiety tone a few letters of Verchota’s surname.”

Also featured in the auction are both white and blue game-worn jerseys from the 1984 Olympics (with the captain’s C).
