NHLOntario Provincial Police are investigating the theft of a Kenora Thistles Stanley Cup banner. The banner commemorates the small town’s Stanley Cup victory in 1907. Also stolen were a Canadian flag and Los Angeles Kings flag.

The items were taken from the Whitecap Pavilion in Kenora, ON. The theft is believed to have taken place between Friday night and Saturday morning. The replica banner and flags were part of decorations for Mike Richards’ Stanley Cup homecoming on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Richards of Kenora, ON won the Stanley Cup this past season with the Los Angeles Kings. Richards spent his day with the Cup in Kenora on Saturday. The theft did not completely spoil the day’s celebrations. During Richards’ homecoming, he took the Stanley Cup (which was always guarded) to a plaque in Kenora commemorating the 1907 Thistles.

Members of the 1907 Thistles were Roxy Beaudro, Eddy Giroux, Si Griffis, Joe Hall, Tom Hooper, Billy McGimsie, Russell Phillips, Tommy Phillips, Art Ross, Alf Smith, and Fred Whitcroft.
