NHLA red Panini America hockey jersey specially worn by Gordie Howe has been cut up and affixed to prize redemption cards distributed at the Fall 2012 Sportcard & Memorabilia Expo. The special (event-worn) jersey cards were seeded into redemption packs given away at the Panini America booth from Nov. 9-11, 2012 in Mississauga, ON.

Wrote Tracy Hackler via the Panini America blog The Knight’s Lance, “Panini America officials have transformed Gordie Howe’s special (2012 NHL All-Star Fanfest) event-worn jersey into a rare handful of oversized Howe memorabilia cards inserted into the company’s Fall 2012 Sportcard & Memorabilia redemption packs.”

It was at the 2012 NHL All-Star Fanfest that Panini America unveiled it had reached a multi-year trading card agreement with Howe. Said Panini America CEO Mark Warsop at the time, “when it comes to transcendent hockey superstars, they get no bigger than Gordie Howe, and we’re more than ecstatic to welcome him to the Panini family. All of our hockey products will benefit greatly from his presence and we can’t wait to share Howe’s legacy and his greatness with fans and collectors across North America.”

The great Gordie Howe was a four-time Stanley Cup champion with the Detroit Red Wings in the 1950s. After 25 National Hockey League seasons and induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972, he returned to the ice to play six more seasons in the World Hockey Association and then one final season in the NHL. Upon his second retirement in 1980, he was the NHL’s all-time scoring king with 801 goals and 1,850 points.
