Thirty-three young hockey stars will attend the annual NHLPA Rookie Showcase this Saturday, Aug. 23 in Toronto. The young stars will be on the ice to get their pictures taken by hockey-card licensee the Upper Deck Company.
“Thirty-three of the top NHL® prospects/rookies will gather in Toronto at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (site of the former Maple Leaf Gardens),” wrote the National Hockey League Players’ Association via a press release earlier this month. “Now in its sixth year, this unique event provides Upper Deck – the official trading card partner of the NHLPA and the NHL – with an exclusive opportunity to photograph many of the game’s top young prospects/rookies in their official NHL team uniforms, in shots that will be used for upcoming trading card and memorabilia launches.”
While the Upper Deck Company will get each player’s photo taken in August, the company must still wait until a player makes his NHL debut before producing any licensed collectibles.
