This will mark the second edition of the Summit Sports Collectibles Show in the Edmonton area. Show promoter David Martell has worked hard to make this the big show of Western Canada. After a successful debut in September 2009, the hobby has higher hopes for the second edition in June 2011.
Not only has the time of year been changed (there should be some interesting new hockey products released in May and the first few days of June), so too has the location. For the Jun. 4-5 event, Martell and his crew have secured Millennium Place in Sherwood Park, AB.
Some of the perks that are highlighted for the second edition include: free parking (with over 900 stalls), lower admission rates (now just $7 for adults, but still free for kids 12 and under), better food at a better price point, greater hotel selection within proximity of the show, and free wireless internet capabilities for all show exhibitors and guests.
The show floor is expected to feature a mix of repeat dealers from the Sportcard & Memorabilia Expo in Mississauga as well as a strong group of Western businesses unique to the Summit Sports Collectibles Show. Some of the featured participants include Eastridge Hobbies, Fastball Sports & Movie Collectibles, and Platinum Promotions. Also in attendance will be Classic Auctions, Heritage Auction Galleries, the MeiGray Group (their only Canadian exhibit in 2011), Pro Am Sports, and Professional Sports Authenticator. (The Want List hockey memorabilia magazine will also be on hand with a free sampling program).
New to the show this year is hockey card manufacturer In The Game. The Toronto-based card company will bring its popular In The Gameland exhibit out west for the Summit Show.
Autograph guests are again included in the make-up of the Summit weekend. Stanley Cup-winning goaltenders Andy Moog, Grant Fuhr and Bill Ranford are all confirmed for the show weekend. Autograph guests are promoted by Pro Am Sports.
As an added feature to the autograph line, Professional Sports Authenticator’s PSA/DNA Authentication Services are on hand to offer their “signed-in-the-presence” service.
