Red Wings celebrate Howe’s 85th birthday

NHLThe Detroit Red Wings will celebrate Gordie Howe’s 85th birthday this Sunday, Mar. 31 before the Red Wings-Blackhawks home game at Joe Louis Arena. As part of the festivities, the team will wear unique “Gordie Howe’s 85th Birthday” warm-up jerseys that will be sold to benefit both the Red Wings Foundation and Gordie Howe Foundation.

Also to be distributed on game day, every fan will receive an 8.5″ x 11″ card that reads “Happy Birthday Gordie.”

As for the warm-up jerseys, each will feature No. 9 (for Howe) on the back and a “Gordie Howe’s 85th Birthday” patch on the front. According to details at redwings.nhl.com, the jerseys will “only be available for purchase by completing an interest form with proceeds benefiting the Detroit Red Wings Foundation and the Gordie Howe Foundation. The interest form will be available until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Apr. 1, and submissions will be contacted on a first come, first served basis.”
