NHLThe Colorado Avalanche will auction off a set of camouflage practice jerseys. The jerseys were worn as part of the pre-game warm-up for the Feb. 10 NHL game at the Pepsi Center. The jerseys were worn as part of the Avalanche’s first-ever “Military Appreciation Night.”

“The Avalanche organization is proud to honor those who have served and continue to serve our country,” said Avalanche General Manager/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman. “It will be an exciting night for our team and all of our fans, but more importantly a chance for us to give back to the men and women who have given so much to us.”

The Avalanche auction runs Feb. 10-24 via auction.nhl.com. Proceeds benefit Kroenke Sports Charities, which supports numerous agencies including military. Additionally, the Avs Better Halves, the wives and girlfriends of the players and coaches, will be selling limited edition autographed camouflage t-shirts that night.

MORE FROM THE AVALANCHE
The Avalanche will have a number of events surrounding “Military Appreciation Night,” which includes a special pre-game ceremony featuring Medal of Honor recipient Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta of Ft. Collins, Colo. The pre-game ceremony will also include each branch of the United States military.

The first 8,000 fans in attendance will receive a miniature USA flag. Pre-game festivities will include bag pipers and drummers inside Pepsi Center and there will be a reenlistment ceremony during intermission.

The Avalanche youth skater that night will be 9-year-old Zachary Wilson of the Colorado Springs Amateur Hockey Association. Zach, whose parents are Air Force Reservists, was nominated by Defending the Blue Line, an organization that ensures that children of military members are afforded every opportunity to participate in the game of hockey (www.defendingtheblueline.com).
