NHLTwo-time Stanley Cup winner Carol Vadnais has passed away. The 17-year NHL pro defenceman had played with the Montréal Canadiens, Oakland Seals and California Golden Seals, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, and New Jersey Devils.

Once noted on the back of his hockey card as “a smooth skater and hard hitter,” Vadnais was the third last player from the Original Six era to play in the NHL, finishing his career in 1982-83 with the Devils. Only Serge Savard and Wayne Cashman – both former teammates – outlasted him.

Vadnais won the Stanley Cup in 1968 with the Canadiens and 1972 with the Bruins. He played in multiple NHL All-Star Games and won a Canada Cup title in 1976.

Born on 2 September 1945 in Montréal, he was 68 years old when he passed away on 31 August 2014.
