NHLThe Colorado Avalanche will retire Adam Foote’s hockey jersey No. 52 this Saturday, November 2, 2013. The jersey will be retired in a pre-game ceremony before the Avalanche-Canadiens hockey game at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Foote is the ninth player in franchise history to have his number retired, joining the likes of J-C Trembly (#3), Marc Tardif (#8), Michel Goulet (#16), Peter Stastny (#26), Joe Sakic (#19), Peter Forsberg (#21), Patrick Roy (#33) and Raymond Bourque (#77).

Foote is a two-time Stanley Cup winner, having won the NHL playoff title with the Avalanche in 1996 and 2001. He served as team captain from 2009-11. He spent the bulk of his career with the Québec Nordiques – Colorado Avalanche franchise, joining the Nordiques in 1991-92 and retiring from the Avalanche after the 2010-11 season.

Incidentally, both the Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks will retire franchise jerseys on Saturday night. While the Avalanche will retire No. 52 in honour of Foote, the Canucks will retire No. 10 in honour of Pavel Bure.
