Now more than 34 years old, six Team USA game-worn jerseys from the Lake Placid 1980 Olympics have sold at auction in the last few years. The latest two were Phil Verchota game-worn jerseys, sold on Feb. 23, 2014 via the Heritage Sports Collectibles PLatinum Night auction.

There was both a white and a blue game-worn jersey in the month-long auction that concluded this past weekend.

Team USA won Olympic gold on Feb. 24, 1980, but it was two days earlier that the team pulled off the improbable, beating the all-powerful Soviet Union in what has forever since been name the “Miracle on Ice.” Team USA wore white jerseys in that 4-3 win.

In February 2012, Classic Auctions got the ball rolling with the sale of a Team USA Ken Morrow game-worn jersey. The first-ever “Miracle” jersey to sell at auction, the white gamer drew a winning bid of $87,304.

A year later, Heritage Auctions listed two Team USA Mike Eruzione game-worn jerseys (the captain). The white jersey earned a winning bid of $550,000 while the blue jersey earned a winning bid of $240,000.

Also in 2013, a Team USA Mark Pavelich game-worn jersey was listed by Classic. The Pavelich white gamer drew a winning bid of $116,203.
