hockey cardFuture stars, 3-D cards, autographs and cut pieces from authentic game-worn jerseys: the best of hockey card collecting and the best of hockey’s future is featured in the 2013-14 edition of In The Game Heroes & Prospects. The annual hockey card series is a fully-licensed product of the Canadian Hockey League.

The 10th edition of In The Game Heroes & Prospects was released to collector stores across Canada and USA on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014. The decade-old hockey card brand delivers six to nine “hits” (3-D, autograph or jersey cards) per 18-pack hobby box.

From the draft Class of 2014 to the Class of 2016, some of hockey’s brightest future stars are featured in this series. CHL prospects Aaron Ekblad and Sam Reinhart, both favourites for the 2014 NHL Draft, are featured on the packaging, so too is 2015 draft hopeful Connor McDavid. Also included in the series (albeit not on the packaging) is CHL rookie and 2016 draft hopeful Sean Day, who last March received Ontario League “Exceptional Player Status” to join the junior ranks early.

The 2013-14 series features more than a few already-draft CHL stars, like Max Domi, Jonathan Drouin and Sean Monahan. From cards 1-150, the In The Game Heroes & Prospects shell series features CHL stars, CHL rookies, international prospects, and hockey heroes. Every card back includes a short player bio (sometimes forgotten in other hockey card sets), player vitals, and the player’s draft status from the CHL to the NHL.

The Heroes – many of whom are today honoured members of the Hockey Hall of Fame – include CHL, college and international alumni like Darryl Sittler, Brett Hull and Vladislav Tretiak. All the Hockey Hero cards feature a colour artwork portrait on the front.

First launched in November 2004, In The Game Heroes & Prospects has featured many (pre-rookie) future NHL stars over the years, including Jeff Carter, Sidney Crosby, Ryan Getzlaf, Alex Ovechkin, Corey Perry and Cam Ward in that first 2004-05 release. The new 2013-14 series includes a tribute to the original release, featuring modern prospects on the original 2004-05 design.
