NHLCanada’s 1972 Summit Series team was honoured in Toronto as part of Canada’s 2012 Walk of Fame Festival. The team was honoured at Nathan Phillips Square on Sep. 21, with hockey fan activities running throughout the weekend in conjunction with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

As part of the festival, Paul Henderson’s famous Team Canada game-worn jersey was on display, courtesy current jersey owner Mitch Goldhar. The Henderson jersey was purchased via a Classic Auctions Historical Hockey auction on Jun. 22, 2010. Goldhar won the auction with a winning bid of $1,067,538 (with the buyer’s premium, the final price was in excess of $1.275-million).

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and Russia. Canada won the eight-game series, capped off with a memorable series-winning goal by Henderson in the final game in Moscow on Sep. 28, 1972.
