NHLThe Vancouver Canucks will retire Pavel Bure’s hockey jersey No. 10 this Saturday, November 2, 2013. The jersey will be retired in a pre-game ceremony before the Canucks-Maple Leafs hockey game at the Rogers Centre in Vancouver.

Bure is the fourth player in franchise history to have his number retired, joining the likes of Stan Smyl (#12), Trevor Linden (#16), and Markus Näslund (#19).

Bure is an honoured member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, inducted as part of last year’s Class of 2012. He was the star of the Canucks’ organization from 1991-92 to 1997-98, including a run to the Stanley Cup final in 1994. He was a three-time Cylcone Taylor Award winner (Canucks’ MVP) and two-time 60-goal scorer during his days in Vancouver.

After his time in Vancouver, Bure went on to play for the Florida Panthers and New York Rangers. At the international level with Russia, he won Olympic medals at Nagano 1998 (silver) and Salt Lake 2002 (bronze)

Incidentally, both the Vancouver Canucks and Colorado Avalanche will retire franchise jerseys on Saturday night. While the Canucks will retire No. 10 in honour of Bure, the Avalanche will retire No. 52 in honour of Adam Foote.

In Vancouver throughout the day, Bure will sign autographs in the morning at the Vancouver Sports & Retro Collectibles Show in neighbouring Langley.
