In The Game brings back 3D Class of 2014 hockey cards

Posted on 6th December 2013 by hockeymedia in Cards,The Want List | Tags: ,

CHLIn The Game will bring backs its popular 3-D draft class hockey cards for a second year. The 49-card subset will be included in the 2013-14 In The Game Heroes & Prospects hockey card series that will hit collector stores on Jan. 31, 2014.

This year’s subset will focus on the Class of 2014, including draft hopefuls Sam Reinhart, Aaron Ekblad and Sam Bennett. The subset is short printed, with only two 3-D cards seeded in each 18-pack box.

This year marks the 10th edition for In The Game Heroes & Prospects, a hobby favourite since 2004-05. As the brand is fully licensed by the Canadian Hockey League, the series has often captured the so-called stars of tomorrow before they reach the National Hockey League. The brand has also featured retired hockey legends.

“It’s hard to believe that Heroes & Prospects is coming into its 10th season,” said In The Game’s President, Dr. Brian Price. “The brand came about as a response to the NHLPA taking away the licenses of all but one company and it truly filled a need for collectors that was not being met. I am proud of its overwhelming success and believe that this anniversary edition will be a hit due to the inclusion of some of the best cards we have ever produced for the brand.”

NHLThe 10th edition of In The Game Heroes & Prospects will be available in the new year. Product details have yet to be announced, but autographed cards and game-used jersey cards are again promised for this series.

In The Game Heroes & Prospects has been a hobby favourite since 2004-05. As the brand is fully licensed by the Canadian Hockey League, the series has often captured the so-called stars of tomorrow before they reach the National Hockey League. The brand has also featured retired hockey legends.

In The Game has promised to post more details in the coming weeks. Last year’s series was released on Jan. 31, 2013, so collectors can expect a similar timeline for the 2013-14 series (in other words, January or February 2014).

Key hockey teenagers that collectors should expect to see in this product include 2014 draft prospects Aaron Ekblad and Sam Reinhart and 2015 draft prospect Connor McDavid.

MacKinnon again number-one among draft prospects

Posted on 26th June 2013 by hockeymedia in Rookies,The Want List | Tags:

NHLMemorial Cup winner Nathan MacKinnon is again the top-ranked draft prospect, according to TSN hockey guru Bob McKenzie. The 2013 Stafford Smythe Trophy (Memorial Cup MVP) winner was pronounced McKenzie’s pick in the days leading up to the 2013 NHL Entry Draft on June 30.

The Colorado Avalanche hold the first-overall pick in this year’s NHL Entry Draft. The three likely candidates to be drafted first overall are forward MacKinnon, defender Seth Jones, and forward Jonathan Drouin.

MacKinnon had long been considered the top prospect heading into the 2012-13 hockey season. Midway through the season, however, Denver defender Seth Jones emerged as the likely top pick, a prediction that reached its height in April when the Avalanche were awarded the rights to select first overall.

The junior hockey playoffs, however, changed the opinions of many scouts. MacKinnon was a standout in the Québec League playoffs and then MVP in the Canadian Hockey League Memorial Cup tournament. He even scored a hat trick in the championship game to help the Halifax Mooseheads capture the title.

This season, hockey fans have collected MacKinnon memorabilia through Canadian Hockey League licensee In The Game Trading Cards, including the recently-released 2012-13 In The Game Draft Prospects.
